The Rookie Accountant
About me

About me
Hi I'm Bri, although my parents would disagree and actually tell you my name is Brianna. I'm taking on the responsibility of completing a dual degree in Business and Accounting. Yep, that's right, you are probably thinking "she's crazy!"

A little info about me. I live on a cattle property located just outside of Mundubbera (4 hours north of Brisbane, QLD) in the beautiful North Burnett region, that is bursting with graziers; citrus, grape and blueberry farms; and a handful of small friendly local communities. I keep my days busy by looking after my fur babies, a cat named Preston and two mini dachshunds, Tilly & Sasha, as well as all the other animals that live on our farm. I enjoy crafty activities like baking, photography and the occasional artwork when I get time. Another fun fact about me is that I'm a twin to my brother Sam, and quite funnily we looking nothing alike and he doesn't have red hair like me.

So why am I doing this? To be honest this wasn't my first preference when it comes to university studies. I did study accounting at school, but I always overlooked it as a career I could be interested in. When I graduated from high school last year, I had my heart set on being a Sonographer or Echocardiologist (medical imaging specialist roles), which obviously is very different to a business entrepreneur or accountant. I didn't get accepted and I know there are more ways then one to get into course you wish to study, but there was a tiny part of me that believed I was destined to do something else (I am a strong believer in everything happens for a reason).
For a few months I fell into a hole of uncertainty, and to be brutal I felt that I had let a lot of people down. Until one day whilst searching for a local job to pass some time, the perfect job fell into my hands - a casual customer advisor at a leading Australian bank in my small local town. In completing a few weeks in this role, I came to the decision that I wanted to complete a degree in the business field, as the casual nature of this role makes it extremely capable for me to do so.

Whilst working as a casual customer advisor, I also take on a few shifts at the local Three Rivers tourist park, so I guess you could say I'm immersed in the business world all day everyday. I see the effect that money has on people which deeply intrigues me, and I also like to watch how it can grow or disappear very quickly, something I'm sure we are all very aware of. I really enjoy 'nutting' out figures and financial planning for the future, quite ironic since accounting works with the past.

So come with me, the 'rookie accountant' on a journey into the unknown worlds of accounting, learning and online communication. I'm looking forward to getting to know a little bit more about what it takes to run a well operated business through online communication and learning how to accurately deal with/analyze the figures through the accounting aspect, or as Martin would say 'game'.
